Home Page Statistically, one of the smiling faces in the photo to the left, will not make it through high school. Yes, not only is the drop-out rate for high school students at an all time high, drug and alcohol use is way up among intermediate and high school aged students. You cannot tell, by the smilling faces on these young students, which one will be denied a bright future because of involvement in just one of these vices that are so prevelant in todays sociaty. However, there is hope, if you feel as the members of the Lighting The Way For Kids Organization feel, you will have a desire to take a positive step into that gap between the student and their choices. You can become a Mentor to just be there before the choice is made, and or a contributor towards a scholarship for the kid that may otherwise not make it to college due to social and economical conditions beyond their control. You do not have to be wealthy, or have a digree in child psychology to help. You, as a mentor, are only expected to listen to the student's questions, and guide them as you would your own child. If you have the ability to contribute financially, the size of the contribution isn't important. Just for a child to know that someone cares is enough to make a big difference in a student's life. To provide an education for an under served child-it is a chance to change a child's life forever. | Lighting The Way For Kids and Take Stock in Children, combined, created an extreamly successful program to improve the lives of low income, at risk students through scholarships, mentoring and enrichment programs. The programs offered through Lighting the Way for Kids, and Take Stock in Children, is a solution to one of the most critical problems facing Florida-- high dropout and high youth crime rates. Take Stock in Children has a proven record of helping low-income children stay our of trouble, graduate from high school, attend college, and become productive citizens. When combined with Lighting The Way For Kids of Jackson County, we offer hope for those very emportant, and deserving students in Jackson County. Without this partnership, between the state run program, and the LTW Organization, Jackson County students are less likely to benifit from the state's matching funds in our county. The funds will go somewhere. | How Can I Get Involved? This year, Lighting the Way for Kids, has made it their goal to provide six (6) four year sholarships to worthy students.
